Joel Littlefield is a pastor, husband, and father in midcoast Maine. He has been married for over 20 years with 4 children. He has been the Lead Pastor at New City Church since 2017 when the church was first planted. Joel has written multiple books; Beeline to the Cross and Kingdom Minded Pastor: How Pastoral Partnerships Advances the Kingdom.
Josh Whitney
Josh Whitney is a pastoral resident and husband of over 10 years. Born and raised in Maine, he is working towards eldership and church revitalizing.
Who We Are
Joel started a Facebook group in 2021 out of a deep appreciation for the ministry of Spurgeon. The vision was for people with a common interest in the “Prince of Preachers” to connect over a kingdom-minded pursuit of doctrine and practice. The group grew, and Joel needed someone to come on as an admin on the page. Already a member of New City Church, and a good friend, Josh was the first to speak up. Soon after this, the podcast was born. Originally named Spurgeon Maineiacs, the name was a tip of the hat to our home state of Maine. Out of a desire to reach a wider listenership, we changed the name in 2024 to Engaging Spurgeon. In 2023 we hosted our first Spurgeon conference in Maine, and completed season 1 of the podcast. Season 2 production is well underway, and the 2024 conference is set for June 8th.
